I have been telling the people at Ableton, for example, that they should be implementing a torrent downloading system, or using a third party downloader like Continuata. Having to attempt multiple downloads of the same large file because the internet connection had a quick hiccup is a PAIN IN THE ASS.
Downloading programs like qBittorrent are free and open source. Downloading via a program like that means you can stop, start, interrupt, shut down the computer, and the files will still be downloaded completely in the end without having to restart the process.
This needs to be implemented across the board. With all the checks and balances, like iLok, there is no reason not to be using torrent systems for large downloads. Also, getting past the stigma people have about Torrents in general needs to happen sooner rather than later. 076b4e4f54
